Sunset Tanning

Fake tan, money and you

You may be thinking of having a fake tan but don't know if you can afford to keep topping it up every so often. The key is to weigh up your options and choose the most economical and effective route for you.

Instant tan can cost less than £10 and can provide you with an instant glow for those times when you just need a touch up or haven't got enough time to go through the complete fake tanning process. However, this tan will wash off in the bath or shower, not giving you a week-long glow. Instant tan is good for tanning newbies to get the ball rolling and practice their tanning skills.

Gradual tan moisturiser is great for building up a natural looking tan or to prolong an existing tan and will continue to build up if used on a daily basis. It is cost effective as it combines gradual tan and moisturiser so you don't have to buy both and is perfect if you have about a week to build up your tan. A good gradual tan can cost anything from £5-20 and all come in various shades to reflect a multitude of skin tones.

At home tan mists and professional spray tanning treatments are great for achieving an even finish, especially ideal if your having a D-I-Y tan job. At home tanning mist costs around £16 and contain enough for many applications. Alternatively, if you were not wanting to do it at home, a professional spray tan costs around £25 for a 30 minute session. Your tan should last about a week if you use mild shower gel and moisturise daily.

A sunless tan mousse can also give an even coverage and is a good way to practice the art of application for fake tan newbies. If you buy an instant tan it can last longer providing you get a developing one. On average a mousse tan costs £20 and can be anything from £10-£30 dependent upon the type you buy. Tanning mousse come in two varieties, a rub on and wash off version or a standard week long tan.

Fake tan lotions are more of traditional way of tanning and you can get a salon recommended brand for as little as £16. It is vital to make sure that you tan your entire body as you don't want any white bits on show and this type of tan should last around a week if you keep it well moisturised and ensure that you don't use anything that would risk your tan going streaky.
